First of all, I would very much like to thank anyone and everyone who made our most recent event happen. With busy schedules and a down-turned economy working against any non-profit event, we are consistently amazed at the wonderful people who help make Art for a Change a success.
That being said, we just wanted to let everyone know that we officially have raised $700 for The Women’s Resource Center and Project Rescue, two organizations that are doing great things both here in Gainesville and abroad.
Also, there are still some art pieces left, so if you are interested in a continued support of the arts, as well as our goal of empowering women, feel free to contact an AFAC staff member and we can arrange a time to show you what is left from our most recent show.
If you would like more information on what either organization is doing to empower women, please send us an email (info@artforachange.org) or click on the links to The Women’s Resource Center and Project Rescue.
With hope and joy,
Mary

We have set the date/time/place for the AFAC event this fall! October 23rd at 7pm at The Exchange. Roberto Evans (the owner of The Exchange) has been gracious enough to let us use his space for the second time, free of charge. So, if you have never been to his gallery/shop on University, make sure you stop by and thank him and then look at some awesome custom TOMS shoes!
Also, we have decided on a cause. The staff had a few things on our hearts, but it seemed that two ideas really worked together. We will be splitting any money we raise between The Women’s Resource Center (a local Gainesville cause) and Project Rescue (a global cause located in India). Both projects focus on women, but you can find out more about each organization from their websites on the blogroll. The staff at AFAC is so honored to be able to help change the lives of women who are in our community and also those who we don’t see everyday.
If you are looking to donate art or get involved, please email us at info@artforachange.org. More information to come in the following weeks!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Art For A Change in March a success.
Thank you to those who donated art, bought art, attended the event, made a donation, played music, etc. And a special thank you to The Exchange for hosting the event!
It was a night of lots of great people, good music, a fun atmosphere, lots of awesome art and all for a wonderful cause.
The event was truly a success and over $1300 was raised. Hananasif Orphanage is going to use the money made from Art For A Change to expand their chicken coupe. They recently started a chicken coupe, which will provide income for the school, reduce food costs and provide practical training to the students.
They are encouraged by efforts to raise awareness and money on their behalf.
If you would like to learn more about their work and other current projects and needs follow the link to the Hananasif website.
Here are some photos from the event:

Thanks to all of the artists, volunteers, and supporters who bought art and attended the event last week! After everything was counted, we made a total of $1,412.15, which is over 1/4 of what is needed to build a deep well! We have sent in all of the money to World Vision, and asked them to keep us updated with where the next well is built.
After a wrap up meeting, we are looking at all of the good things that happened as well as methods that can be adjusted to make AFAC more effective. We are had quite a few people ask about when the next AFAC event will be and, it seems at this point, we are leaning toward the idea of preparing for a fall show.
If you want to be a part of Art for a Change, have any suggestions, or just keep up to date with everything that is happening with our well, send your contact information to info@artforachange.org.
Thank you all so much!
Mary

FRIDAY APRIL 18th, 7PM -2ND STREET BAKERY
CLEAN WATER FOR AFRICA

We are happy to say that the next AFAC Show will be April 18th ,7pm @ 2nd Street Bakery (Gainesville, Fl). Artists in many mediums (paint, sculpture, jewelery, textiles…) will be selling pieces with all of the proceeds going toward a well in a community in Africa in areas where there’s a great need. Something as basic as a steady source of clean water can lead to longer life expectancies, less infant mortality, less sickness and better crops.
It’s something so basic that we take for granted that can make a world of a difference for another human being.

If you would like to help or are an artist or musician who would like to contribute in any way, including if your business who would like to make a donation, please contact Art For a Change via this website or call (352)246-7841. We are looking forward to meeting people and artists who want to be a part of making a change.

In June we held a show to raise funds to prevent child sex slavery. There was an awesome response from the artists and a lot of people came out to support. This show featured handmade jewelry, paintings, drawing, photography, clothing, and of course, some great food. Thanks to the local businesses as well who really came through with some great gifts and donations.
